Bruce Jenner: I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar

C’mon now, when Bruce Jenner announced “I Am A Woman” didn’t everyone’s mind go to the classic Helen Reddy song:

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an’ pretend
‘Cause I’ve heard it all before
And I’ve been down there on the floor
No one’s ever gonna keep me down again

Oh yes, I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong, I am invincible, I am woman

You can bend but never break me
‘Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
‘Cause you’ve deepened the conviction in my soul

I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin’ arms across the land
But I’m still an embryo
With a long, long way to go
Until I make my brother understand

SO is it any wonder that this song is a fitting tribute to his decision?

Why do I care about his?  I don’t. Other than if your spouse decides to do this, just let me know to process an endorsement on your insurance policy changing their sex from M to F, or vice-versa.

Good looking kid though.  And one heck of an athlete! I still remember his accomplishments touted throughout my youth.  He embodied (pun intended) all of what America’s youth admired.  His accomplishments were great and is so much more than being step-dad to a reality starlet.

So this is beginning to sound like a eulogy but it is not meant that way.  As I wrote above, I could not care less if he has decided to dismember his fan base and his own body; and I do not have to understand his reasons.   I do hope that the new Jenner is a loving and philanthropic person, as he may already be – nothing else matters much.

Looks like Helen is still a woman.
